Hey there peeps – Twitchy Twilight here with a purrsonal message for you humans. 🐭
You may be wondering why I haven’t posted for a few days – Well, that’s because beginning a few days before Halloween, things started happening to 3 of the Can Opener’s dearest friends.
The friend she had in Hospice care (J.)- (the one who had so many kats she took in and was very precious), died.
My Can Opener had not been able to go see her before she passed, because she was watching the creatures every day (and only closest family was allowed to visit).
But her neighbor and best friend – (K.)- (with whom she had visited the friend in Hospice previously), had been going to see her and stayed with her constantly so she wouldn’t die alone.
This meant that in addition to watching the Creature and its baby sister every day, the Human also took care of K.’s bunny every day because she couldn’t be with her dying friend around the clock and also take care of her bunny.
Then, when J. – (In Hospice care) passed, Kelly and my Can Opener took it really hard. Kelly was also sick herself – but had to keep going and didn’t get much rest. She was worn out in every imaginable way. So the human (Can Opener)- kept taking care of her bunny every morning and night before and after taking care of the Creatures.
K. was so sick she was not able to eat, and was in constant pain. And right when she thought things might be able to settle down and she would be able to rest and start to feel better, she got a call at 4:00 am on Halloween from the emergency room at the hospital and a nurse told her that she needed to get there fast. Her youngest son had been attacked and left for dead and he had a fractured skull.
As you can imagine, K’s stress level shot to the danger zone. She went from pushing herself to be there for a friend in Hospice care, to pushing herself to be there for her seriously injured son in the hospital.
Her son is now out of the hospital, but has several smaller fractures leading from the main fracture, and will never get his hearing back on that side, and has nerve damage in his face and is in severe pain.
All this time Kelly herself was severely sick and knew she needed a doctor, but couldn’t find the time to get there.
Meanwhile, the human’s next door neighbor and also best friend, Sonya, discovered that in a recent surgery to remove her thyroid, a tumor the size of a walnut was found and after the doctors studied it, they told her it was a rare cancer that spreads quickly throughout the body and she needs to start radiation therapy immediately.
That means she will not be able to be with her kids or grandkids for the holidays, or even be around other people at all for several days after her treatments.
Right after Kelly’s soon got released from the hospital, Kelly had one day at home before she got a high fever and began to throw up and be unable to eat anything and her pain increased.
She went to the doctor and found herself admitted to the hospital immediately. She was septic.
She is now out of the hospital thanks to catching it early and massive doses of antibiotics –
Meanwhile, the human has been (and still is)- doing everything she can to encourage, comfort and help Kelly and Sonya when she’s not watching the Creatures, and before / after.
So, I haven’t been posting, simply because I’ve had my paws full trying to take care of the human while she’s trying to take care of her friends and her Creatures and grand-creatures.
In fact, I’m going a little wild myself!
So whatever you do, DON’T TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES FOR GRANTED – and make sure they know you love them – because you never know when you may not get another chance to tell them.
And PLEASE – IF YOU TAKE CARE OF OTHERS – TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF TOO!
Please be patient with us and we’ll be back soon. We’ve needed a break. 🐭
Ps. We love and miss you all. 💖
